FAQ's about Pet Trusts

Frequently Asked Questions About Pet Trusts

Articles

1. What is a “pet trust”?

A pet trust is legal technique you may use to be sure your pet receives proper care after you die or in the event of your disability.

2. How does a pet trust work?

You (the “settlor”) give your pet and enough money or other property to a trusted person or bank (the “trustee”) who is under a duty to make arrangements for the proper care of your pet according to your instructions. The trustee will deliver the pet to your designated caregiver (the “beneficiary”) and then use the property you transferred to the trust to pay for your pet’s expenses.

Meet the Breeds!

My husband and I are thinking about finding a friend for our little cocka-po- Ulla. This Martha Stewart Site is great! She gives you an overview of the different breeds! Any suggestions? Looking for low energy (because Ulla is HIGH energy), short hair, and medium sized...thanks!!

The Great Afghanistan Cat Rescue

For some marines stationed in Afghanistan, one thing made their tour of duty much more bearable: the local stray cats and kittens.

No one minds the cats on the base. They’re cute, friendly, loving – and they keep the base free of snakes and mice (a huge bonus!).

But when one of the kittens, Kiki, went missing, Corporal Brian Chambers felt it. When Kiki surfaced a few days later in terrible condition, with four bad cuts on him, Chambers realised how attached he was to the cat. After Kiki received treatment and became his old self again, Chambers decided to get the cat out.

Putting up some of the money himself, and getting the rest through some wonderful donations, four kittens were taken on an arduous journey out of Afghanistan. Their journey, aided by rescue organisation Nowzad Dogs, took them through Pakistan, then New York and finally Houston and Detroit. Unfortunately two of the kittens didn’t make the trip, but Kiki did, and is now living with Chambers’ parents in Houston, patiently awaiting the day his new Dad can come and get him.
